Doha, Qatar:  Egypt emphasized its continuing efforts to collaborate with the UN and The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to transport humanitarian aid to Gaza. However, the government in Egypt says it is still awaiting the necessary permissions, as stated by the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry on Sunday.

Speaking to CNN, Shoukry remarked: "Humanitarian aid has not been able to access the Gaza side of the Rafah Crossing to reach Palestinians.”

“We are coordinating with the UN and UNRWA for permission to transit the supplies through the Rafah Crossing to be deposited with the United Nations for dispersal. However, we haven't secured the necessary authorization yet. The situation is deeply concerning."

He further highlighted Egypt's determination to expedite the shipment of these crucial supplies.

"We are keen on distributing the supplies that have reached the city of Al-Arish promptly to cater to the needs of Palestinians facing very difficult circumstances," Shoukry added.

Discussing the current status at the Rafah Crossing, Shoukry clarified that "while the Rafah Crossing remains open on the Egyptian side, challenges arise because aerial bombardments have made roads on the Gazan side unsuitable for vehicle transit."

Regarding foreigners stranded on the Gaza side of the Rafah Crossing, Shoukry said that they were “processing numerous requests, not just from Americans but also Canadians, as well as third nationals from countries including the Netherlands and Austria."

"Once all necessary procedures are completed and their documents have been verified by offices in Gaza, we, in cooperation with their respective embassies, will facilitate their safe transit."

He further stressed that “those operating on the Gazan side believe it is necessary for third nationals to leave so that humanitarian supplies can enter.”

Shoukry expressed Egypt's hope for peace, and emphasized on the importance of an internationally recognized two-state solution.

"We fervently hope for the protection of civilians, and through cooperation with the US, aim for a definitive resolution of the conflict."
