DOHA: In a bid to curb the soaring rents of residential and commercial properties in the local market, the State Cabinet has asked the ministries concerned to prepare a report on the issues in two months.

The State Cabinet has approved the recommendations of the Advisory Council in this regard and asked the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the Ministry of Finance to prepare a report. A regular session of Advisory Council yesterday reviewed a memorandum of the Cabinet General Secretariat addressed to the Ministry of Municipal and Environment on its proposal to hold a general debate on the surge in property rents.
The memorandum said that the Cabinet has approved the recommendation of Advisory Council in its session held on January 20 and decided to refer it to the authorities.
The Council recommended to stop acquiring commercial space for public projects before providing enough alternatives to the market and conduct a study before
doing so. The Peninsula
