Doha, Qatar: Launched in 2017 by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the Qatar National Trauma Registry is the first and only national trauma database in the Arab world. Since its launch, the registry has become a key tool for improving trauma care in Qatar, helping to prevent injuries and save lives.
The registry collects detailed information about injuries, including how they happen, patient details, treatments, and outcomes. This data helps healthcare teams identify areas for improvement, reduce preventable deaths, and provide better care. It also supports prevention programs targeting common causes of injuries, such as road accidents and workplace incidents.
Dr. Hassan Al Thani, Head of Trauma and Vascular Services at Hamad Medical Corporation, highlighted the importance of the registry: "The Qatar National Trauma Registry allows us to track injuries and improve the way we care for patients. It has helped us save lives and set a standard for trauma care in the region."

“By analyzing the data, the registry helps improve the quality of care at every stage, from emergency response to long-term recovery. It also helps ensure healthcare resources, like hospital beds and intensive care units, are used efficiently,’’ added Dr. Al Thani.
The comprehensive data collected by the registry supports important research on topics like road traffic accidents, occupational injuries, and pediatric trauma. These insights contribute to publications, conference presentations, and training programs for healthcare professionals.
Data from the registry is integral for achieving and maintaining HMC’s international accreditations, including the American College of Surgeons’ Trauma Quality Program and Accreditation Canada International’s Level 1 Trauma Center designation.
This initiative has made Qatar a leader in trauma care in the Arab world and shows how data-driven systems can improve healthcare for everyone.
