Sevilla: After three defeats, Qatar took their first points in Spain and can mathematically hope to reach the quarter-finals of the Men’s World Championships.

Qatar won 31-23 agaisnt Chile here yesterday.

The Asian runners-up need to beat Iceland in their final encounter to make the last eight stage.

Qatar were clearly dominant from the start, showed the better defence and were much more efficient in attack. Minute by minute they increased the gap to the pre-decisive 16:9 halftime lead.

Right after the break the Chileans had their best period, keeping the distance at six goals and played clever in attack. Like in the matches before, Rodrigo Salinas was the hub of the Pan-American bronze finalist.

But even his in total seven goals could not prevent his team from the fourth straight clear defeat in the fourth match.

After this result Chile definitely will play in the President’s Cup in Guadalajara.

After minute 45 they lost their powers like in the previous games and Qatar again took over the full command. Even a Chilean time-out could not stop their negative run, so the Asians extended the result to double-figures at 25:15 in minute 49 for the first time.  Best scorer for Qatar was Sahbi Aziza with eight goals.
