DOHA: Aspire Logistics’ premier street basketball tournament returns to Doha on Saturday, as defending champions, ‘The Heat’ return with hopes of claiming the trophy once again.
This year’s Doha Jam will see 16 amateur teams go head-to-head in the ultimate three-on-three tournament at the outdoor basketball courts in Aspire Park, between 3pm and 7pm.
Rashid Al Abdullah is taking part in Doha Jam for this first time with his team ‘Al Shaqb’.
“Our youngest player is 39. We have been playing basketball together for a long time. We have a lot of fond memories competing as a team, and we are hoping to relive some of these and win Doha Jam,” Abdullah said. 0‘The Heat’ team member, Ziyad Omar said: “I love basketball and regularly take part in competitions, and with this actually being our third year competing in the Doha Jam tournament, we’re hoping to win first place again this year.”
Residents are encouraged to come down to Aspire Zone to join in the fun and cheer on their favourite teams from the dedicated spectator’s tribune.
A new addition to this year’s competition is the half-court contest in which five randomly selected audience members will be invited to make a free-throw shot from the half-court mark, before the start of the final match. If the individual makes the shot, they will be awarded.
