Doha: The terminal operating company providing services to Hamad Port, QTerminals, yesterday announced achieving a new milestone in workers’ safety.
“QTerminals and its development partners are pleased to announce that they have now reached 4 million man-hours without any Lost Time Injury (LTI) during the construction of Container Terminal 2 (CT2) at Hamad Port,” QTerminals said in a tweet yesterday.
The initial operation of Hamad Port’s Container Terminal began in December last year. CT2 development consists of four phases. Full operation of Phase 1 and 2 will start before the end of 2022, taking the port’s capacity to three million TEUs per year. Phases 3 and 4 will be developed later to raise the port’s operational capacity according to the local market’s needs.
Meanwhile in another tweet, Mwani said that Hamad Port Container Terminals were made with universal specifications to facilitate expansion of container handling and to meet trade needs. “The optimum handling capacity of the port’s three terminals would be 7.5 million TEUs upon completion of the development stages,” it added.
The area of Phases 1 and 2 of Hamad Port’s CT2 is 380,000sqm and its quay is 624M long. Phase 1 of CT2 has been equipped with 3 STS quay cranes with advanced technology, including semi-automation and remote-control operations. STS cranes are known for being fast and extremely efficient in container handling and capable of handling latest types of vessels. Four more cranes will be added during 2021, taking the total number of cranes to seven.
CT2 has been also equipped with 12 RTGs and 14 more will be added during 2021, taking the total to 26. RTGs are used for handling containers on the landside. Earlier in December last year, QTerminals had made another achievement as its operations at Hamad Port achieved two million man-hours without any Lost Time Injury (LTI).
