Aspetar holds webinar on football medicine

Doha: Aspetar held yesterday an online webinar on travel sports medicine, football medicine and performance, hamstring injuries, hot topics in football medicine and performance, among others.

This part of the Webinar Series ‘Cutting edge sports medicine and science to your doorstep’ which is being conducted every third Wednesday of the month and is a one hour and 30 minutes session.   In a statement, Aspetar Director of Education and Specialist Sports and Exercise Medicine Physician, Dr. Paul Dijkstra said: “Starting February 16, we will be able to actively learn from top experts in Aspetar, but also international faculty who will share knowledge on travel sports medicine, handling injuries in football players, protecting the health of football players, and hot topics on football medicine and performance and much more.” 

He also highlighted that as the country will be hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar set in November this year, the succeeding webinars will also be focusing on football and other many sport medicine and science topics. 

The webinar series was launched last year as part of their COVID-19 initiative to draw an online audience to Aspetar’s education experience.  Among the topics that were discussed include return to sport during COVID-19, coping with heat, and growth-related injuries. It is an Accredited Group Learning Activity. Category 1 as defined by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners – Accreditation Department and is approved for a maximum of 1.50 credit hour. It has 1.5 CPD Credits per webinar (16.5 credits total) and certificates will only be issued to attendees who register and attend the live session. It is being conducted via Microsoft Teams. A one time fee of QR250 for 11 sessions is needed to settle to participated in the webinar, there will be no single session payment.

The Scientific Planning Committee include Dr. Dijkstra as Chair; Sofie Nelis as Co-Chair, Faten Smiley, Dorothy Lechicki, Celeste Geertsema, Raouf Rekik, Pieter D’Hooghe, Dania Almasri, Konstantinos Epameinontidis, Zainab Al Sarraf, Sean McCrudden, Marco Cardinale, and Rafael Santos.
