Doha, Qatar: In celebration of the National Sport Day, held annually since 2012, AFG College hosted a series of sporting, wellness and education events for staff, students and faculty.

The initiative aimed to promote mental health well-being, physical exercise and an understanding of the role sports play in society. The events offered a range of activities, which included football and padel tournaments sponsored by Qatar Insurance Group as well as a beach bootcamp.

These activities were designed to encourage participants of all levels to get involved, enjoy the experience and to feel the benefits that sports has on their overall well-being. Staff and students were also offered the opportunity to visit the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum. Going beyond it’s health benefits. The National Sports Day acts as an opportunity for the community to come together.  Through participation and friendly competition, activities in the College’s week-long series of events, allow staff and students to connect outside of the traditional classroom setting, helping to foster better relationships and a commitment to their health and wellbeing.

Dr Sheikha Aisha Bint Faleh Al Thani, Founder and Chairperson of Al Faleh Educational Holding said, “As provider of higher education provision, the College appreciates that sports and other activities play a role in the quality of life of not just our staff and students, but of our local community as well.

The National Sports Day launched and championed by HH the Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, is an opportunity for everyone in Qatar to reaffirm their commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle.”

AFG College Principal Brian Buckley noted “The annual Sports Day is always something I look forward to. It is an opportunity for our staff and students to come together and recognize the importance that sport has in supporting our physical and mental health.

“All of us at AFG College encourage everyone to participate in the activities being offered across the country, and make any type of wellness activity part of their everyday lives.”
