Doha, Qatar: Following 16 rounds of intense battles, the stage is set for the final ‘play-off’ leg which will eventually decide the finalists of the Qatar Basketball Federation’s (QBF) Men’s League.

All eyes will be on Al Gharafa Arena tonight as the race for the title enters the decisive stage, with Al Rayyan, Al Arabi, Al Sadd and Al Ahli set to clash in a best-of-three semi-final round that promises top-class action.

Heading into today’s first leg, Al Rayyan will be aiming to live upto the expectations of their loyal fans, following a highly successful League stage which saw them at the top of the overall standings with 30 points from 14 impressive wins. Al Rayyan, the most successful team in the history of the prestigious League with 18 titles, will be keen to clear the semi-final stage and reach the finals in search of more silverware.

Closely following in the second spot were the defending champions Al Arabi who finished the league stage just two points behind at 28, winning 12 games and losing four. Al Arabi have clinched the title on nine occasions.

Meanwhile, Al Sadd booked their place in the semis after finishing third with 27 points. The Wolves – who won their sixth title three years ago, also look poised to deliver a strong challenge this time, looking to restore their position as a powerhouse once in Qatari basketball.

Meanwhile, fourth-ranked Al Ahli (26 points) who ended up as runners-up after going down to Al Arabi last season, will also be looking to spring surprises.

In today’s first leg of the play-offs, Al Rayyan will take on Al Ahli at 8:30 pm and Al Arabi will take on Al Sadd at 10:30 pm.

These opening matches will set the tone for the remainder of the semi-final rounds. Fans anticipate a tight contest as each team strives for victory to gain an early advantage.

On March 20, the tournament heats up again when the teams face off in the second round. If any series be tied after two games, the teams will meet one final time on March 22.

The winners of the play-offs  will advance to the title clash, scheduled for next month.
