Doha: El Jaish and Al Gharafa emerged victorious in their respective semi-finals of the ongoing H H Emir Cup 2015 - 2016 Basketball Tournament, played at Al Gharafa Sports Club Indoor Courts yesterday.
El Jaish highly relied on the amazing rally by their former Detroit Pistons star, Vernon Leon Macklin who netted 39 points during the 87-75 win against Al Rayyan. Macklin also involved in 14 rebounds. Adamu Saaka (14 points) and Ali Turki Ali (10 points) were the other notable performers for El Jaish.
QBA League Champions Al Rayyan took an early lead with a fine run in the first two quarters, scoring 20 and 15 points against the winners’ 15 and 18 points. But El Jaish came back strongly in the third quarter, adding 33 points against 16 of Al Rayyan’s to take the lead. Al Rayyan netted 24 points in the fourth quarter while El Jaish added 21, but it was not enough to stop the later marching away victorious.
For Al Rayyan, Lawrence Hill added 17 points while Tanguy Alban Ngombo and Malek Abdulla netted 14 and 12 points respectively.
In the other semi-final, Al Gharafa relied on a magnificent team effort which earned them a convincing 63-52 win against Al Sadd.
Kevin Galloway and Emmanuel Adako added 15 points each while Hassino Ndoye and Abdulrahman Mohamed Saad netted 10.
Dante Williams collected 21 points for Al Sadd, but their effort was not good enough earn them a win yesterday.The Peninsula
