Doha, Qatar: A series of celebrations have begun to mark the 79th Independence Day in, Qatar has begun. 

Indonesian Ambassador to the State of Qatar, H E Ridwan Hassan, kicked off the activities by opening a bowling tournament.  The bowling tournament was jointly organised by the Indonesian Embassy in Doha in collaboration with the Betawi Community Family in Qatar (LABEIQ) with the support from Indonesia’s Bank Central Asia (BCA).

Apart from being attended by the Indonesian community in Qatar, the bowling tournament was also attended by other ASEAN communities who live in Qatar, such as from Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines.

Ambassador Hassan said that the bowling activity was the start of a series of activities to celebrate the 79th Indonesian Independence Day in Qatar. 

"We do this activity routinely. Apart from strengthening the ties of brotherhood and kinship among the Indonesian people in Qatar, we also use tournaments like this to promote Indonesia to other foreigners in Qatar,” said Ambassador Hassan. 

In addition to that, the embassy will also hold a series of competitions, both for kids and adults to celebrate Independence Day. “We thank the Government of Qatar who is always supportive in assisting us to organize our community events,” concluded Ambassador said. The Indonesian Embassy in Doha has prepared a series of activities to celebrate the 79th Indonesian Independence Day. “This month we just started recruiting members of Paskibra who will be tasked with the flag raising ceremony on August 17,” said Head of Socio-Culture Division of the Indonesian embassy, Ali Murtado. 

Indonesia declared its independence on August 17, 1945.
