Al Khor’s players celebrate their huge win over Al Duhail.
Doha: Qatar SC yesterday consolidated their top spot in Group B at Ooredoo Cup following a 3-0 victory over defending champions Al Gharafa, thanks to a hat-trick by Kayke Rodriguez. Also yesterday, Al Khor crushed Al Duhail 7-0 while Al Arabi edged Al Sailiya 2-1 in remaining Round 2 matches of the group.
At Al Ahli Stadium, Brazilian star Rodriguez grabbed the spotlight as he scored two goals in the first half and completed his hat-trick in the stoppage time to sink reigning champions Al Gharafa.
Qatar SC strengthened their top position in the group with two victories in as many matches.
Rodriguez put Qatar SC ahead in the sixth minute, scoring off a cross from Hamad Mansour. He then doubled the lead with a goal in 38th minute.
The Brazilian forward, who already took the matter past Al Gharafa’s reach, found target again in the 90+4 minute to seal his hat-trick and impressive win for Qatar SC.
Although Qatar SC dominated most part of the match, Al Gharafa came close to scoring several times but goalkeeper Motasem Majed, who was in outstanding form, avoided any damage to keep Al Gharafa’s score-sheet blank.
At their home turf, Al Khor displayed a dominating performance to crush Al Duhail 7-0, and jump to second spot in the group with four points.
Saeed Mohammed was the hero for hosts as he scored five goals in the match.
The hosts were ahead right from the word go, taking the visitors under pressure with an attacking display.
Saeed opened up the scoring in the 11th minute as Al Khor were rewarded for their back-to-back attacks against Al Duhail, who were pushed to their half.
Mohammed took advantage of a pass deep behind the defenders and hit the target to open the floodgates.
Al Khor managed to score two more goals in the first half to go into the breather with a comfortable lead.
Four minutes after the opener, Ahmed Hassan Al Mohannadi scored the second goal for Al Khor and completed his brace with a goal on penalty kick in the 31st minute.
Despite a comfortable lead, Al Khor showed no complacency and fired four more goals against their opponents to record huge victory.
Saeed did all the damage in the second half by scoring all the of Al Khor’s goals in the session.
Meanwhile, in other match at Wakrah Stadium, Hamdi Harbaoui scored as brace to help Al Arabi earn full points with a 2-1 victory over Al Sailiya. Harbaoui scored both the goals in the first session, finding the targets in 23 and 41 minutes.
Al Sailiya got their only goal through U-23 player Hasan Sadiq, who struck in 25th minute.
Al Sailiya, looking to level the scores, made many attempts but Al Arabi defense did well to block the moves and ensure full points.
The Round 3 of Ooredoo Cup will be played on November 23 while Round 4 will be held on November 29.
