Doha: The Ministry of Culture launched the ‘Reading Guide’ Service in the framework of the 31st Doha International Book Fair, with the aim of helping the Fair’s visitors choose titles and topics that encourage them to continue reading.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dalal Al Sharafi, the official in charge of the Reading Guide Service, said that the service is the first of its kind offered in book fairs and was launched under the guidance and supervision of Minister of Culture H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani.

She noted that the new service targets people who are novice in reading of all age groups. The guides present throughout the exhibition guide them through consultation sessions that do not exceed 10 minutes. During these sessions, the reading guide presents a questionnaire through which he learns about the reader’s cultural background, interests and purpose of reading.

She explained that the role of the guide is to work to change the stereotype in reading, as there must be comprehensiveness in reading.

This service aims for the beneficiary to know his goal of reading and the field that suits him, and knows how to evaluate the book, and how to choose the appropriate book.

The Reading Guide will help novice readers to choose topics and ideas that will help them continue reading through a specialized team formed by the Teach For Qatar organization, and librarians from Qatar National Library and the Ministry of Culture.
