The Qatar Shooting and Archery Association Cup, organised by the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSSA) kicks off today with a large participation of shooters in various categories at the Lusail Shooting Range.
The Lusail Championship, the first of the season’s tournaments is an event in which both shooters and archers are participating.
With the national team members also taking part along with amateurs, the competition is expected to be close and high in standard.
Yesterday, the athletes took part in the official training session and most of them are ready for the challenges that lie ahead of them during the championship.
Abdul Aziz Muhammad Al Tamimi, Secretary-General of the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA), stressed that the championship will serve as an ideal preparation for Qatari shooters ahead of the new season.
“We are looking forward to providing players with a good level in preparation for the new season in all categories, whether shooting, archery, rifle and pistol for male and female shooters, and also the junior competitors.”
The Secretary-General of the QSAA said: “The championship is a good opportunity to discover new talent for the future. The competitions have a great impact on raising the level of players and this is what we look forward to in addition to discovering talent to support the various national teams, and we expect more than one shooter to shine in the tournament.
More attention on female competitors
Al Anoud Saeed Al Misnad, head of the Women’s Committee at the QSAA said: “There is great interest in the female shooters and the future looks bright. This tournament is a great opportunity for female archers and shooters to show their skills. Since this is the first tournament of the season, it will be interesting and full of challenges.
“We will push many young faces into the tournament. We have more than one promising player. We expect them to have a bright future, especially in archery and shooting. While it is refreshing, we expect the level to be very high in light of the form of the athletes seen in training and their great passion to provide top performances in the tournament,” she added.
