Doha: Qatar is well-established in terms of ICT infrastructure and digital transformation and needs to maintain its position, said an official.

Speaking to The Peninsula in an interview Kamal Zian (pictured), Chief Cybersecurity and Privacy Officer at the Gulf North Representative office, Huawei said that the country is already a topmost market, however, needs to continue to its leadership in the sector adding that the company “can provide the value of Qatar enabling small technologies like the evolution from 5 G to the 5.5 G technology which gives ten times more capacity, speed, and massive connectivity.”

He mentioned that this initiative will be implemented within two years by collaborating with telecom operators and other partners. He said that “We are also investing a lot in Cloud and AI capabilities so definitely becoming more intelligence positively using this AI is to ensure that enterprises and governments can operate efficiently and achieve operation, which is very critical to us.”

The official emphasised that partnering firms are very vital for Huawei as customers see the value in the market.

“Huawei is uniquely positioned as an ICT company because we are not operating only in one single area. We are operating in different areas including consumer products and networking areas. So the spectrum of services and solutions that we are offering is uniquely positioned in that perspective,” he said.

He mentioned that moving forward, Customers understand the capabilities, flexibility, and support Huawei does. Zian said that they also comprehend “the strong presence of Huawei in Qatar with a large number of teams to feel the support and trust and execute strong digital transformation initiatives.”

The expert remarked Qatar is a very “attractive market” especially with its national vision for 2030, a key pillar of this transformation.

Zian said: “We have already been witnessing enterprises here in Qatar in public sectors and digital services in a massive way."

He continued by saying that "Within this fast-paced change, we are seeing the opportunity to also offer our services and products to our customers and ensure that digital transformation is done smoothly. We are not just offering services and products but also we are accompanying our customers to ensure that we are doing the right choices in technology and services perspective and giving them the best value of proposition in the market.”

With several tech-adept expats and citizens residing in the country, Zian highlighted that Qatar is also a positive market when it comes to digital transformation.

He said, “There is more demand for connectivity than cloud services, and by default, we are seeing these opportunities, which is why we made the decision to enlarge our operations here by choosing a new office so we can provide direct job opportunities to locals and also entrepreneurs but as well as create direct jobs in Qatar through our partners and customers.”

“So this is important with its ecosystem and tight collaboration and I think with the growth that we are witnessing in Qatar, we will work towards it,” Zian added.

Huawei, the multibillion-dollar firm recently inaugurated its new Doha headquarters in UDC, The Pearl Island to expand its operations and carry out its programs and initiatives in the region.
