Doha: Nine teams will vie for top honours in the Heir Apparent Cup of Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) which will begin from February 25 at Al Gharafa Indoor Hall.

The participating teams have been clubbed into two groups at the draw ceremony, informed QBF officials.

Officials of all the participating teams were present for the draw conducted by QBF officials yesterday.

Group I consists of Qatar Basketball League (QBL) winners Al Sadd, Eljaish, Al Ahli and Al Gharafa.

QBL runners-up Al Rayyan have been placed in Group II along with Al Arabi, Al Wakra, Al Shamal and Qatar Sports Club.

In the preliminary round, each team will play against all the teams in the group in a single round format.

The top 2 teams from each group at the end of the preliminary round will qualify to the play-offs.

The play-offs will be in the best-of-five series, with the first place team from Group I taking on second place team Group II, while Group II winners will clash with Group I runners-up.

Al Arabi won the Heir Apparent Cup last year. The final will be played on March 15 at 6.00pm.
