DOHA: Qatar will field two teams in the inaugural FIBA Asia 3x3 Championship for men and women, it was confirmed yesterday.
Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrehman Al Thani, President of Qatar Basketball Federation (QAF), said the May 15-16 event - to be held in Doha - will also feature top 16 countries in both categories.
FIBA Asia has invited teams from 15 national federations for the inaugural FIBA Asia 3x3 Championship to be hosted at Villaggio Centre.
FIBA Asia Secretary General Hagop Khajirian said: “We couldn’t have asked for a better and more hospitable hosts for our inaugural 3x3 events.” He added: “The QBF headed by Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has generously extended the invitation to host the FIBA Asia 3x3 Championship for women simultaneously with its hosting the FIBA Asia 3x3 Championship.”
Khajirian said: “We are sure that these two days will be full of fervent action in what we believe a festive atmosphere for the top teams in FIBA Asia. Of course let us not forget the usual tremendous organisational abilities of QBF.”
Sheikh Saoud said the event will be broadcast live on Al Jazeera Sports Channel and Al Kass television networks.
THE PENINSULA
