Doha: Most recent innovations in wound care and best practices to deliver even higher-quality services to patients will be discussed in Doha next month.

The Second Qatar International Wound Management Conference is set to examine innovative clinical procedures and medical technologies that can be used by healthcare practitioners to enhance common approaches to treating chronic wounds.

The three day conference under the patronage of Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will be held from 23 November to 25 at the Qatar National Convention Center. The event will bring together more than 1,500 local and international healthcare practitioners and held under the theme ‘Modernization and Innovations in Wound Care.’

“By bringing together leading healthcare experts, we can expand on our learning from last year and highlight the most recent innovations in wound care best practice to deliver even higher-quality care to our patients,” said Dr Yousef Al Maslamani, Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital (HGH), addressing a press conference held yesterday at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC). He is also the chairman of the Conference’s 2017 Scientific Committee.

Dr Al Maslamani further said that there is a growing demand for HMC’s wound care services due to the growth in Qatar’s population and consequently an increase in incidences of chronic diseases and other serious illnesses. This is in addition to complications or infections that may result after surgery. He said, these factors have generated an even greater need to develop knowledge and explore the latest innovations in the field of wound care.

Shaikha Ali Al Qahtani, Director of Nursing for Wound Care at HMC and Chair of the Conference’s Organizing Committee, Hassan Al Hail, Executive Director of Media and Public Relations at HMC, Ammar Anabtawi, CEO of Final Vision, the event organizer and sponsor and Dr Thaher Beshtawi, Medical Manager at Qatar Datamation Systems (QDS), the platinum sponsor.

Highlighting the importance of wound care, Al Qahtani said, “Wound care is important, if we don’t care a wound we will be losing the patient. If there is a simple wound and if we don’t treat it properly it will become complicated and chronic to be treated. It can even change someone’s’ whole life." Speaking on the sidelines of the press conference she further said that HMC has the facility to treat wounds with high technology and treatment methods differs according to the nature of the wound.

“We treat wounds with simple plasters to negative pressure therapy and all our treatment methods are in line with everything with international standards ,” she said.

HMC established its specialized Wound Care Unit in 2009 at Hamad General Hospital. To date, the service has provided care for almost 10,000 patients.
