Doha: To improve the professionalism, standards, and educational capabilities of the police, the Police College is working towards obtaining international academic accreditation.
If achieved, Qatar's Police College would be the first in the region to receive such accreditation, a senior official at the college has said.
Speaking to Qatar Radio, Dr. Nasser Fahd Al Dossary, Dean of Academic Affairs at the Police College, said the college provides a pioneering educational environment in preparing and qualifying officers in law and policing subjects.
“Despite the difficulty, we are currently seeking and planning to obtain international recognition, and we will be the first in the region to obtain it. We have obtained official recognition from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education,” Dr. Al Dossary said.
“The Police College pays great attention to scientific research. It is one of the important goals of the college to achieve because proficiency in scientific research raises students’ standards. The College has made sure that there is a great focus on scientific research to ensure the quality of education,” he added.
Al Dossary said the college’s main objectives are to prepare students with scientific and practical competence in law and police matters, develop scientific and training curricula, especially in law, and encouraging scientific research and creativity among college students.
Regarding the period specified for the student to obtain a bachelor’s degree in law and police sciences, he said students have to complete four years with specialised subjects tailored to their field, including legal subjects and police subjects.
He said Police College ensures that the subjects taught are in line with international standards.
Recently, the Director-General of the Police College, Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Al Muhana Al Marri, announced that the Police College will be transformed into an academy by 2023. He added that the college’s new headquarters are 90 percent complete and will be handed over by August this year.
