Doha: Special events in Doha, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021, witnessed a diverse cultural movement despite the exceptional health conditions experienced by the entire world, Minister of Culture HE Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Thani said.
During the closing ceremony in Doha, which was held on the sidelines of the Doha Book Fair, he emphasized the pivotal role of culture, stressing that there is no economic advancement or development without culture, as countries rise and prosper civilly by their cultures.
“I am pleased to conclude the activities of Doha, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021, which were organized under the patronage of Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, under the slogan “Our Culture is Light”,” the Minister said.
The Minister added that “the events were held to translate the qualitative richness of culture in Qatar, in order to preserve Islamic culture and enhance its presence in society with its openness to diverse cultures.”
“The events contributed to achieving positive interaction between intellectuals, creators and cultural institutions, and succeeded in presenting a distinctive image of our culture and cultural heritage that nourishes our national identity,” he said.
As much as the events worked to enhance cultural identity, they sought to build bridges of communication with the cultures of Islamic peoples so that culture would remain the title of rapprochement and coexistence.
The Minister thanked the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Minister of Sports and Youth H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali for their efforts to make Doha the capital of culture in the Islamic world a success.
