Doha, Qatar: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem has said that Qatar National Day (QND) is an occasion cherished by Qataris, as it embodies the values of unity and harmony among all who live on Qatar’s soil and serves as an opportunity to recall the rich journey of a nation.
In an exclusive statement to QNA, His Excellency said that it is a day of great significance and an opportunity to remember the noble legacy of the Founder who placed the foundations for a modern State based on Islamic values and principles.
He added that citizens renew their loyalty to the leader of the nation Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to raise Qatar’s flag high among nations while marching firmly, achieving milestones, upholding rights, preserving commitments, aiding those in need.
He pointed out that the efforts of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs focus on consolidating a moderate approach, working in complete harmony with state institutions according to the government system and its comprehensive vision, enhancing its workforce, improving its services and elevating its departments to fulfill their tasks within the framework entrusted to them to achieve the Third National Development Strategy and foster community partnerships.
Additionally, the Ministry strives to work from a perspective that serves comprehensive cultural security and maintains spiritual stability within society.
He said that the ministry has adopted a clear strategy focusing on supporting various development areas, including social protection, population, labour force, and sustainable development.
This strategy concentrates on vital aspects that respond to contemporary issues, support family cohesion, modernize Islamic culture programs, strengthen relations with the Islamic world and Muslim minorities worldwide, and contribute to social protection by judiciously investing endowment resources and managing Zakat affairs in accordance with their legitimate foundations, he added.
The Minister highlighted the diverse accomplishments achieved by various departments of the Ministry in the fields of endowments, cultural dissemination, research, endowment studies, publication of numerous scholarly books and theses, as well as hosting relevant scholarly seminars.
He indicated that during 2023, the Ministry trained and qualified hundreds of imams, preachers, muezzins, and accredited Sharia jurists through the paths and beacons training program. Moreover, he said that the Ministry expanded women’s religious and Quranic activity programs, strengthened community partnerships with academic, governmental, and civil entities, issued the yearly calendar, and released the distinctive book series - The Ummah
He said that the Ministry is committed to developing its strategic plan for 2023-2030 in line with the country’s Third National Strategy and Qatar’s National Vision, adding that it draws inspiration from its objectives and priorities that focuses on various developmental sectors.
The Ministry also adopted a results-based planning approach utilized by the State as a model for all government units.
The Ministry emphasised in its strategic goals, initiatives, and projects that balance between modernization and development while preserving the esteemed identity and values derived from the teachings of Islam and the Qatari society.
