Doha: Al Jazeera Children’s (AJC) Channel has introduced an advanced education initiative for all refugee children in the Arab world by providing free digital education tools in cooperation with United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
A memorandum of understanding signing ceremony was held in Amman, Jordan and broadcast live through a special episode from JeemTV studio in Doha.
Saad Al Hudaifi, Acting Executive General Manager and Director of the channel, said AJC is keen to enhance the potentials of orphans and refugee children and provide them with learning opportunities and service to prepare them to be effective and productive members in their societies.
The initiative supports efforts of social and media institutions by raising awareness about the significance of humanitarian support to build up a strong society.
He stressed the importance of the agreement signed in light of consistent and tremendous efforts by AJC Channel in providing a new learning initiative through talaam.tv, the first educational video-on-demand online platform in the Arab world in line with school curricula.
It provides an integrated and high-quality learning environment to support the education systems by providing modern technology tools. Al Hudaifi confirmed that taalam.tv services are provided exclusively to schools and educational institutions. These services will be provided to refugees in the Arab world in coordination with UNRWA at zero cost.
JeemTV will collaborate with UNRWA by co-producing segments with UNRWA TV in countries or refugee locations covered by UNRWA. These segments will be broadcast on JeemTV and UNRWA TV and added to taalam.tv content.
Krahenbuhl, Commissioner General, UNRWA, said: “We value all partners in UNRWA and this continued collaboration with AJC Channel will help enhance our education programme, particularly the work we are doing to ensure access to education for the Palestine refugees students whose regular schooling may be impacted by conflict.” The initiative also aims to enhance humanitarian support for refugee children by improving communication in the field of education in the Arab world and creating a unique edutainment experience among all students and teachers. The Peninsula
