About thirteen Qatari companies have joined the ‘Authorized Economic Operator Programme’, of the General Authority of Customs (GAC). The programme provides companies with additional concessions and trade facilities.
“So far, 13 companies have joined the programme, and there are three companies submitted their applications and are still under study. The door is open for all companies to join it,” said Buthaina Al Mas Al Sulaiti, Head of the Department of Facilitation and Commitment at the GAC.
Speaking to Qatar Radio recently, Al Sulaiti noted that joining the programme is free without financial compensation. She expects more companies to join in the coming period. The programme is one of the most essential customs projects currently being implemented, especially as it is making remarkable progress since its launch in 2019. More development and various facilities are being added to include all supply chain components and international trade.
By introducing this national programme, GAC aims to develop partnerships and cooperation with the private sector and grant facilities and advantages to its parties.
These advantages include reducing customs restrictions, inspection procedures and checks on shipments, and the quick release of the incoming and outgoing goods to these companies.
Al Sulaiti said there are four conditions for granting Qatari companies additional commercial facilities to join the programme. Companies must have been operational for three years or more. Also, the company must have an acceptable and approved financial system without customs violations during the last three years. The GAC recently granted additional concessions and trade facilities to several companies that have proven their commitment to international conditions and standards regarding the international trade supply chain.
