DOHA: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, through the Department of Mosques, has inaugurated the Mohammed and Sultan Youssef Al Obaidan Mosque in the Wadi Al Banat area.

The mosque accommodates 610 worshippers, spanning a land area of 2,960 square meters, and includes an imam’s house and a muezzin’s residence.

In a statement, the ministry noted that the new mosque, endowed by the heirs of Mohammed and Sultan Youssef Al Obaidan, aligns with the ministry’s plan to expand and develop mosques across the country to meet urban growth and population increase, in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030.

The newly inaugurated mosque, designated as Grand Mosque No. (M.S. 1417), features a main prayer hall with a capacity of 550 worshippers, a dedicated women's prayer hall accommodating 60 worshippers, and a spacious ablution area.

It also provides ample parking spaces, including spots designated for individuals with disabilities, with organized entry and exit points. The mosque is adorned with an elevated minaret.

The ministry’s Engineering Affairs Department is tasked with addressing the mosque-related needs of various regions, providing temporary prayer spaces, ensuring their maintenance, and preparing annual plans for mosque and imam residence upkeep. The department also supervises mosque construction and maintenance projects, oversees endowment-funded mosque and residence designs, and establishes a database on mosques and staff.

The Ministry of Awqaf’s website also offers a feature for geographically locating mosques via global navigation systems, utilising precise maps to facilitate easy access to mosque locations across the country.
