DOHA: The 50cc buggies mostly seen in Sealine, will now be licensed by the Department of Traffic as per the amended traffic law passed on Wednesday and takes effect three months after being published in the official gazette.
Licence is  because buggies could be insured against accident, a department source told Al Sharq. So far only motorbikes of 50cc and above are registered and licensed by the department. Now buggies and motorbikes of 50cc will need registration and licence.
The law also says new cars will be issued road permit for three years in a row and the renewal of the permit will be for a year afterwards. Vehicles of government departments, semi-government and international institutions and sports clubs will be issued road permit for two years. Some 845,169 accidents took place in the first half of the year, including 15,562 caused by jumping the red light. Some 523,363 out of total violations were detected by radar.
