ClassNK opened its first exclusive surveyor office in Qatar. A party held at the InterContinental Doha recently to celeberate the opening drew attendees from government agencies and maritime companies in the region. It was a double celebration commemorating not only the opening of ClassNK’s new Doha Office, but also the milestone of ClassNK’s register surging past the 200 million gross ton earlier this year.

The decision to open a surveyor office in Doha was taken in order to respond to the strong demand from Qatar Gas, and to provide classification services and technical assistance to activities related to operations of the new Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd drydocks in Ras Laffan.

During his opening address ClassNK Chairman and President Noboru Ueda highlighted how the new office would improve NK’s services in Qatar, saying: “With this new office here in Doha, we will be able to greatly improve the quality of our service in Qatar, and answer in a faster way to the requests and needs of government authorities, shipowners, shipyards, and service providers throughout Qatar.

“For many years, ClassNK has worked in close cooperation with Qatar Gas and other Qatari shipping companies to provide classification services to an eco-friendly fleet recognized worldwide.”

ClassNK has opened seven new offices in the region over the past four years. This expansion in the region was reflected in the party’s attendees, which included Kenjiro Monji, Ambassador of Japan, Abu Bakar Mohammed Noor, CEO of Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine, Jan-Wim Dekker, Managing Director of Nakilat Damen Shipyard and Abdul Aziz Al Mohanadi, Head of marine regulation at Ministry of Business and Trade, among other top maritime figures from throughout Qatar and the greater Middle East.
