Doha: During the fall semester 2021-2022, the Language Center at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies held a series of training courses aimed at improving Arabic language skills for professional and academic purposes. The courses were delivered via video conferencing technology, with wide participation from various Arab and foreign countries. The participants had the opportunity to benefit from the training courses, in addition to refining their skills in the Arabic language. The number of attendees in each session exceeded 100, which reflects the urgent need for language learners to improve their skills, especially in the professional and scientific fields.
These courses were presented by Dr Fouad Al-Qaisi and Dr Rana Siblini, Arabic language lecturers at the Language Center. The lecturers dealt with various linguistic topics and communicative and functional skills represented in sound Arabic writing skills, presentation skills. They also focused on Arabic for professional purposes: correspondence, minutes of meetings and reports, and Arabic for academic purposes: writing research literature and research summary.
These training courses fall within the context of the Language Center’s vision to implement the Institute’s linguistic mission, contribute to enhancing communication between the Institute, individuals and institutions, and enhance the communicative curriculum based on the original educational content and realistic language communication as a main pillar in DI’s teaching philosophy. In addition to classroom teaching, the Center seeks to involve students in the Arabic culture.
In line with the vision of the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, the Language Center seeks to enhance the status of the Arabic language as an international language for study and research. To achieve this goal, it offers various training courses to serve the local and international academic community. It also seeks to reach the professional community and help in promoting the Arabic language as a means of communication in implementation of the official policy of the state.
