Abdulrahman Al Muftah
DOHA: In a new achievement for the sports fraternity in the country, Abdulrahman Al Muftah, a top official of Qatar School Sports Association (QSSA) has been re-elected as an Executive Committee Member of International School Sport Federation (ISSF) in Brazil on Sunday.
QSSA’s Executive Director, Al Muftah, retained his position in top ISSF office following elections in Rio de Janeiro which concluded yesterday. Al Muftah was among 14 candidates who took part in the election for six coveted seats.
Al Muftah first won this post following a tough competition in ISSF’s 2016 elections which saw several big names competing for the same posts in Besancon, France, 2016.
After being re-elected, Al Muftah expressed his delight saying his success in the elections was a result of Qatar Olympic Committee’s (QOC) all out support for school program and hardwork by QSSA, which has been very active in recent seasons.
“I feel very honoured to be re-elected as an Executive Committee Member,” Al Muftah said after his election.
“The QOC’s policies are paying dividends and it was only possible due to their support and the backing of QSSA. It is an important position and I will do my best to play my role in boosting school sports,” he added.
In their congratulatory message, the chairman and members of the Board of Directors of the QSSA wished Al Muftah another successful term in the capacity.
Founded in 1972, the ISSF is a non-profit umbrella sport organisation which gather 85 members from around the world.
These members represent the interests of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in their country.
Recognised by the International Olympic Committee, the ISSF organise International sport competitions in 18 sports for young athletes aged between 16 to 18 years old from all over the world.
Qatar has been one of the most active members of ISSF as QSSA spends a hectic season every year organising several sports events involving schoolchildren.
