To facilitate real estate related transactions by people, the Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Justice is set to add more online services to its digital platform. Those services which are more in demand are likely to be added. “We have digitalised a number of major transactions that are attracting more people, and soon we will digitalise a number of more transactions that more people are asking for,” said Khamis Jassim Al Marikhi, Head of Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Justice. He also pointed out that the new procedures to be announced would achieve a leap in electronic services. Speaking to Qatar Radio, Al Marikhi said that Qatar is first in the world in the ease of procedures for registering the property documents, and the Department will maintain this position.
Al Marikhi explained that the process of selling a property used to take a week or more, but now it only takes a few minutes (around 10 to 15 minutes). Despite coronavirus pandemic, the Department facilitated many procedures for visitors. Regarding the total value of real estate transactions in Qatar last year and despite the difficult situation because of coronavirus, he said that the total vale it stood at QR31bn from 5,117 property transactions. In 2019, Al Marikhi pointed out that the statistics showed that 3,783 real estate transactions were recorded, and the total value was more than QR22bn. About sales and registration in some areas compared to others, he said that turnout is high in areas where there are more service facilities compared to others.
According to the annual analytical real estate bulletin issued the Ministry of Justice for 2020, the municipalities of Doha, Al Rayyan and Al Daayen topped the most active trades in terms of financial value, followed by the municipalities of Al Wakra, Umm Salal, Al Khor and Al Thakhira, Al Shamal and Al Shahaniya.
Khamis Jassim Al Marikhi, Head of Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Justice, said that the sales movement is affected by the laws, adding that the law of Non-Qatari Real Estate Ownership will increase the movement of sale and registration as some began preparing to buy which areas are better. Regarding the procedures that delay the completion of transactions or the sale process, he said that among them is not to bring the property document (ownership), or if the property has a mortgage or other legal matters, adding that there are 15 real estate centers distributed in the country for registration and documentation service.
