Doha: Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah won the Kuwait Rally to extend his lead in the Middle East Rally Championship (MERC).
Al Attiyah’s third victory on Kuwait soil keeps him on track for securing his ninth MERC title.
Driving a Ford Fiesta, Nasser finished the second round of the seven-leg championship with a 1:13.9sec margin over the UAE’s Shaikh Khalid Al Qassimi of the Abu Dhabi Citroen Total World Rally Team.
Qatar’s Abdulaziz Al Kuwari finished third in his Ford Fiesta on a day which brought no changes to the overnight leading positions.
Nasser who had won the opening round in Qatar now leads the standings with 50 points as the action shifts to Jordan which will host the third round of the regional series from May 9 to 11.
The Kuwait International Rally saw 29 cars competing in the second round of the series, which tested crews over 242 competitive kilometres. QNA
