Activities lined up for 2nd Qatar Sustainability Week

Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) has announced the second edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW).
The week-long event will take place from October 28 to November 4. “The event will host a number of activities including a bridge building competition, a photography competition, a beach and desert cleanup, as well as the renowned Qatar Green Building Conference and Qatar Sustainability Awards,” said Engineer Meshal Al Shamari, QGBC Director in press conference held yesterday.
“Registration for sustainability week is open for companies and individuals and they can register on the website of QGBS ,” Hamoda Youssef, Head of Communication at QGBC told The Peninsula.
Youssef said that under the week, so far, more than 150 activities have been approved and confirmed and details are available on the website.
“The activities include beach cleaning, internal session with staffs, tourism activates like ecotourism, school competition and many more,” he added.
QGBC Director, Meshal Al Shamari said that Qatar Sustainability Week is designed to actively engage Qatar’s public and private sector organizations in a wide range of sustainability-oriented activities.
“The event aims to foster a culture of sustainability among residents and visitors, as well as promote engagement from members of the community. This is in line with ultimately achieving the global sustainability goals outlined in the Qatar National Vision 2030,” he added.
“With less than a week to go, we’re excited about the second edition of QSW and look forward to welcoming a wide range of stakeholders showcasing their activities that contribute towards our nation’s environmental protection and sustainable development goals,” said Al Shammari.
He said: “We’re honored to have our esteemed sponsors join us at this press conference. We anticipate a very successful week filled with events and it is not too late for organizations to register their planned activities with QGBC.”
QSW provides an opportunity for various entities and organizations interested in the sustainability sector within Qatar to present their initiatives and highlight their practical and innovative solutions in this field, in addition to contributing to the establishment and dissemination of a culture of sustainability among all segments of society through a number of activities throughout the week in addition to the Qatar Sustainability Award that motivates institutions to protect the environment in Qatar and the region.
At the press conference, representatives of the QSW sponsoring companies expressed pleasure at their participation in such a great event saying that sustainability measures and green buildings are no longer a choice but a necessity and key features to which all sectors are paying attention .
They pointed out that the green buildings proved their ability to be the best solution to achieve environmental protection and an important source that helps reducing the damage factors on the planet.
They stressed that their participation in the annual conference of the Qatar Green Building Council this year and their initiative to sponsor all Qatar Sustainability Week events reflected the efforts to encourage the community to adopt green building standards that work to achieve the environmental pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030.
