Football fans visiting the country have expressed their admiration for the National Museum of Qatar’s (NMoQ) architecture, calling it “fascinating” and “amazing”.

The striking designs, which were inspired by the desert rose found in Qatar’s arid desert regions, have astounded foreign tourists. The museum was designed by renowned architect Jean Nouvel to honour the history and culture of Qatar.

Chen, a Chinese national, arrived in Qatar on Monday  along with his friend. He said the National Museum is a sight to see, even just the exterior of it. “Activities are everywhere, fans are all around and are crazy, singing their country’s songs. It’s an exciting World Cup!”

“The architecture is amazing. It’s fascinating,” said Mehdi from Iran, who’s visiting Qatar for the first time. He said he’s exploring museums to “connect with the culture of Qatar.” He also commended the country’s public transit system, which allows people to get anywhere with ease.

Like Mehdi, Oscar from Ecuador is a first-time visitor to Qatar and was equally impressed by the National Museum’s architecture. Along with his father, he asserted that the museum’s architecture is eye-catching and compels visitors to take pictures of it.

Also from Ecuador is Jaime who is visiting Qatar for the first time, along with his other three friends. “I’m amazed with the National Museum of Qatar. Overall, our experience in this country is beautiful. It’s a beautiful city, beautiful country. We have been to The Pearl and Souq Waqif.”

“It’s an interesting shape and very beautiful,” described Karin from Japan who visited NMoQ. “I am with my husband and two children. The museum is astonishing and the shape is intriguing. This is our first time staying in the country but we transited here before.”

The museum’s building, completed in 2019, has been built around the focal point of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani’s original palace, which served as both his home and the government’s seat for 25 years. To ensure that visitors and future generations can enjoy the palace, it has been meticulously preserved and restored.

The museum has spectacular galleries, a distinctive architecture, a 220 seat theatre, two restaurants, a café, and a traditional food forum.

Pipilotti Rist: Your Brain to Me, My Brain to You, running until January 14, 2023; A Sneak Peek into Qatar Auto Museum, until January 20, 2024; and the just launched On the Move, running until January 14, 2023; are the ongoing exhibitions at the museum.

NMoQ is open from Sunday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm and is easily accessible via Metro.
