DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) plans to build 160 footbridges all over the country to ensure pedestrians’ safety. Yusuf Al Emadi, Head of Road Maintenance Section at Ashghal, said: “Ashghal has already built an air-conditioned footbridge on the Industrial Area road (east). The bridge is 65 meters long and four meters wide. Elevators and staircases are installed at the footbridge for the convenience of pedestrians”.
A large number of pedestrians are using the footbridge. According to a survey conducted last August, 42,181 pedestrians used the footbridge in a month. This means 1,361 pedestrians use the bridge on daily basis on average at the rate of 57 pedestrian per hour, said Al Emadi
He was speaking at a two-day traffic safety conference organized by the Qatar Centre for Traffic Safety Studies at the Engineering College of Qatar University, in collaboration with Traffic Department at the Ministry of Interior.
