DOHA: Best Buddies Qatar (BBQ) has presented Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of the ‘No Barriers to a Great Friendship’ campaign it helped produce.
The programme is a touching short film which depicts the relationship between two boys, played by Khalifa Al Kubaisi and Eid Al Shamari, as they encourage each other, communicate and share to become ‘best buddies’.
The film uses an innovative split screen technique which enables viewers to watch their lives in parallel, and emphasises their interactions. The campaign was made possible due to support by QFC, and produced in association with The Film House and BBQ.
Yousef Fakhroo, Chief Marketing and Corporate Communications Officer, QFC, said: “Supporting the success of young people in Qatar is something QFC is passionate about. The basis of QFC supporting BBQ is from our belief that great success comes from great support because what BBQ does, by creating opportunities for friendships and support systems, is to enable young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach their full potential and achieve success.”
The programme aims to raise awareness and encourage people to volunteer with BBQ.
Laalei Abu Alfain, Executive Director, BBQ, expressed thanks and gratitude for the overwhelming support received from QFC.
“We are thankful to QFC for supporting BBQ and sponsoring our awareness film” she said.
“The production represents opportunities available to people with IDD to enable them to become an integral part of the local community. We believe that the film will reach out to many people and engage them with the aim of ending their isolation through social integration and one-to-one long-lasting and meaningful friendships. We also hope to continue our collaboration with QFC for the noble cause of benefitting the Qatari community.”
The film will be screened soon in cinemas across Doha and can be viewed on QFC’s YouTube channel; ‘QFCAuthority’.
BBQ received support during the campaign and would like to thank QFC, The Film House and Grand Hyatt Doha for providing shooting venues, along with Qatar-Bahrain Cinema Co., Katara Cultural Village, Aspire Zone, Burgerry restaurant, the Museum of Islamic Art. Khalifa Al Kubaisi and Eid Al Shamari were also thanked for their role as the stars of the film.
