DOHA: The Industrial Area on the outskirts of the city is being developed in seven phases, says the Public Works Authority.
Ashghal said the first phase is almost complete and work to coat roads with asphalt will begin
soon.
The first phase of development of the Industrial Area covers street numbers 1 to 15. “After the asphalting of the streets, the project will be complete,” said Ashghal. Work on three phases of development of the Area is on and preparations are under way to launch the remaining four phases as well, according to Ashghal.
“We are speeding up the execution of the development work of Industrial Area because it is an important zone and traffic is quite heavy here,” said Ashghal.
The Industrial Area Development Project has all the features of a development project including a network of roads and intersections with traffic lights.
The intersections will be multi-level and roads will have dedicated lanes for pedestrians, bicycles and motorcycles. The road development works will boast features like sewage networks, besides facilities for underground electricity cables, water and telecom services.
The Industrial Area is large and important so that its ambitious development plan had to be divided into phases, which are being launched after careful planning.
There will be electricity sub-stations in the area and the new road networks will have modern street lights.
Arrangements will be made to pump out drain water.
Ashghal gave the details to Al Sharq in response to a report the daily published on December 1 to highlight the problems in the Industrial Area.
Ashghal said that many issues mentioned in the report do not fall within its jurisdiction so it cannot comment on them.
The Authority said it is coordinating with a number of bodies concerned to execute the development project in the Industrial Area.
Al Sharq, in its report, said there are frequent traffic jams in the area and waste is found dumped in heaps all over. Cars are found abandoned around garages and streets have potholes with the asphalt peeled away.
Some areas stink because of leaking sewage water, with no one bringing the problem to the notice of civic authorities, said the daily. Ashghal repeated it was not to blame for many problems.
