DOHA: The Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced that the ‘Bard Al Azariq’ - coldest days of the year - begins today, January 24.

The country is expected to experience extremely cold weather until the end of the month as Bard Al Azariq lasts for 8 days, according to QCH.

Al Azariq/Azraq (blue) season is considered the coldest days during the winter period, as "faces and limbs appear blue" due to the severity of the cold.

Cold spells affected the country during the last few weeks with temperatures reaching as low as 12°C at night and 18°C during the day. A further drop in temperature is expected in the coming days.

Qatar Meteorology's latest weather update shows a minimum temperature of 13°C recorded in the Al Shehaniya area.
