QU and PHCC sign agreement

DOHA: Qatar University (QU) and the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) will begin collaborative activities in education, research and clinical training. 
An agreement was signed yesterday by QU and PHCC to conduct joint research projects, exchange academic information and materials and establish of a joint ethical review board to approve, monitor and review joint research activities.
It includes collaboration in education and training for PHCC staff and QU students from College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy and College of Health Sciences.
The agreement was signed by Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham, President, QU, and Dr Mariam Ali Abdulmalik, Managing Director, PHCC, in the presence of Dr Egon Toft, Vice-President, Medical Education and Dean, College of Medicine, officials from both institutions and QU faculty and staff.
According to the agreement, both sides will also cooperate in providing scholarships and sponsorships for PHCC members and QU students involved in health-related programmes.
They will also develop and implement continuing education programmes in the field of pharmacy, health sciences and medical education and establish joint professional development programmes, seminars, conferences and academic forums.
Dr Al Derham said, “The Board of Regents of QU has recently approved a cluster that merges the colleges of pharmacy, medicine and health sciences under one umbrella with the leadership of the vice-president for medical education. 
“The merger aims to maximise efficiency and synergy building on QU’s long journey in establishing reputable health programmes trusted by the healthcare sector. 
“With the establishment of College of Medicine and College of Health Sciences, partnership with the healthcare sector takes on a new dimension and new agreements are shaping up, including this memorandum of understanding with the Primary Health Care Corporation we are signing today.”
Dr Abdulmalik said, “The PHCC continues to support the academic health system in Qatar through collaboration with well-recognised academic bodies. 
“As the national university, QU plays a very critical role in the healthcare sector through its medical and health-related programmes in which its students benefit from practical experiences designed to prepare them for employment in the sector. 
“QU supports health-oriented corporations and institutions by providing well-trained national graduates of diverse disciplines,” he added. The Peninsula
