Employment of Qataris in private sector jumps 150% in Q3 of 2023

Doha, Qatar: Appointment of Qatari citizens in the private sector jumped 150 percent in third quarter (Q3) compared to second quarter (Q2) of 2023, showing success of the of the Ministry of Labour's Job Nationalisation Programme.

Q3 witnessed the appointment of 2,006 male and female citizens in public and private sectors.

“The private sector recruited 534 Qatari citizens including 302 males and 232 females in Q3 of this year,” said Director of the National Manpower Employment Department at the Ministry of Labour Malak Abdullah Al Hajri. Speaking to Qatar TV yesterday, she said 213 citizens were appointed in private sector in Q2 of 2023.

“The growing number of appointment of citizens in private sector reflects the constant efforts made by the Ministry of Labour in coordination with Civil Service and Government Development Bureau (CSGDB) to provide quality job opportunities to citizens and prepare suitable work environment for them,” Al Hajri said. Director of Nomination and Replacement Department at CSGDB, Dhabiya Ahmad Al Buainain said that 1,315 citizens were appointed in public sector in Q3 2023. In addition, 157 appointments were made from graduates of Government Scholarship Programme in public sector.

Al Hajri said Qatar Airways, Noor Center and Commercial Bank of Qatar (CBQ) appointed the largest number of citizens in private sector in Q3. However, the private entities that offered the most vacancies to citizens in Q3 were HSBC, Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), and Qatar General Insurance and Reinsurance Company.

“The finance and accountancy sector led the appointment of citizens in private sector,” said Al Hajri. She said the most demanded specialisations in private job market in Q3 were financial management and accountancy, followed by computer engineering and cybersecurity respectively. Al Hajri said information technology sector is expected to witness qualitative leap in offering job opportunities very soon. “The specialisation of cyber security witnessed high demand in Q3 which is not a surprise due to fast spreading artificial inelegance , virtual reality and other developing technologies,” said Al Hajri.

Al Buainain said specialisations of teaching, engineering and IT witnessed the highest demand in Q3 of 2023 in the public sector.

She said the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Hamad General Hospital, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kharamaa) offered the largest number of jobs to citizens in the private sector during the three months.

The Ministry of Labour is constantly upgrading the National Employment Platform (Kawader), emplying artificial intelligence to improve the user experience.

The efforts to provide job opportunities for citizens in Qatar are among the main goals of the human development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030.

The vision ensures availability of investments for the public and private sectors and the creation of training and employment opportunities for all citizens in Qatar to achieve their aspirations, in addition to providing programmes that keep pace with the labour market.
