Companies need to continue transforming, update their products, keep adopting to changes and be agile because firms that do not respond to market changes brought by innovation tend to miss out on opportunities. Milaha has new technology initiatives for 2021-2022 and it has already significantly added functionality and capabilities across all areas and progressed towards its ambition, an official recently said.
Addressing a session on ‘Digital Transformation as a Driver of Innovation - Milaha’ during Rowad Qatar 2021 organised by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), Jassim Al Majid, Vice President of Information Technology in Milaha shed light on ‘digital transformation’, the process of reaching it and shared the digital transformation journey of Milaha.
Speaking about the digital transformation journey of Milaha he said, “Our business when we started was shipping but since then our business has transformed. We moved to land transport, container shipping, and under water services and now Milaha owns more than 100 vessels such as container vessels, oil tanker vessels, service vessels. We sell trucks, heavy equipment’s, we have warehouse and logistics,” highlighting that “We transformed not only just digitally, technically but also in new products, services.”
“In 1981 we started our first system which was payroll and inventory and adopted to new systems and technology. Today in 2021 most of our systems are on the cloud and as we go we are utilising the new technology,” he added.
Al Majid explained Milaha has already significantly added functionality and capabilities across all areas and progressed towards its ambition. “Milaha has new technology initiatives for 2021-2022 that is to continue automation and digitisation in the areas where there is no automation. We will continue with business intelligence/analytics, we will provide our management with tools to analyse data to make better decision, and also Robotic Process Automation (RPA) which Milaha started two years ago - wherever we see there are repetitions of things done by the user we can automate that.”
He reiterated, there is no end of digital journey, there will always be something that is needed to be changed otherwise you will miss the opportunity. So, keep adopting using new technologies to provide the best services and tools to customers, stakeholders, and staff,” he added.
To understand more about digital transformation, Al Majid cited examples of companies that succeeded in using the digital transformation such as Netflix, Amazon bookstore, Nike, Uber, Airbnb.
He said, “Companies need to continue transforming and updating their products because companies that do not respond to market changes brought by innovation, tend to miss out on opportunities. To succeed in digital transformation, you need to know what you want to do, plan how to reach your goal, excel in customer experience, integrate your systems, adapt, and innovate quickly, build new digital skills, stay up to date.”
