Doha, Qatar: South Korea international Kim Moon-hwan has joined Qatar’s Al Duhail, the reigning QNB Stars League (QSL) champions revealed yesterday.
During their pre-season training camp in Austria, the Qatar football heavyweights made a formal announcement regarding the acquisition of the former Jeonbuk Hyundai midfielder. A versatile player, Moon-hwan began his professional career at Busan I-Park in 2017 and garnered attention by earning a spot in the K-League Best 11 for two consecutive seasons in 2018 and 2019.
In January 2021, he made a move to LAFC in the US Major League Soccer (MLS) before returning to Jeonbuk later in the same year.
It’s worth noting that the 28-year-old Moon-hwan is the second player from South Korea to join Al Duhail, following in the footsteps of Nam Tae-hee.
Moon-hwan joined his new teammates at training in Seefeld, Austria, yesterday as Al Duhail kicked off their overseas preparatory camp ahead of the forthcoming 2023-24 season.
The Red Knights, coached by Hernan Crespo, will continue their training regime in Austria until August 11 as they gear up for the new season which is set to commence on August 17.
Meanwhile, former QSL champions Al Sadd also made a significant announcement via their official Twitter account, confirming the signing of Ecuadorian international Gonzalo Plata. The 23-year-old Plata has inked a five-year contract with the Wolves.
Previously, international media had reported that a number of European clubs, including Burnley and Newcastle United had been trying to rope in the proficient midfielder who played for his country at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Plata made his European debut with Portuguese giants Sporting CP in 2019 before he was loaned out to Real Valladolid of Spain for the 2021-22 season and played a big part in helping them to win promotion back to La Liga.
