DOHA: The popular professional teams of Pinoy Basketball Qatar (PIBAQ) has attracted hundreds of Filipino fans at the Al Gharafa Indoor Arena during their matches on Friday afternoons.
In the Division 1 games on Friday, the veteran moves of former MVP Radel Mallari lifted Batang Isarog to another exciting victory, 95-89, against another newcomer Jewel Advertising, who remain winless this season.
Mallari, a former stand-out of the Philippine Basketball Association, contributed with 43 points.
The reliable combination of Bryan Tolentino with 26 points, Nino Minaz and Poldong Rodriguez who both contributed 22 points each along with the successive three-point plays of Willy Layag was not good enough to drive Jewel Advertising to taste victory.
In Division 2, Dukhan Ballers led by CJ Casas who also currently plays for Gharafa team in Qatar Basketball Federation’s (QBF) under-16 basketball league, beat QP Dukhan, 68-52, to lead the league with a clean four wins and no losses.
In other games, QDVC LRT escaped a narrow victory over KBAS Contracting winning 75-74, after the buzzer beating conversion by Archie Palconit with three seconds left.
Team Gilas 3, suffered a heartbreaking loss in the hands of Karwa Mowasalat who won the game 93-79.
Other game winners were KIA Motors winning against IMCO Engineering, 76-71; Consultants-Ralos winning against Qatar Knights, 66-58 and Natsco Garage claiming victory over Smeet Precast, 80-43.
Also Familia Bisdak claimed victory against Al Dar Exchange, 71-64.
One PIBAQ match is played in between the Qatar Basketball League matches on Fridays.
