Al Attiyah hits the track as organisers arrange free ride to circuit for fans

Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah giving final touches to preparations for his debut at the season’s final WTCC round, yesterday at Losail International Circuit.   

DOHA: Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah yesterday fine tuned his preparations ahead of his debut at the season’s final WTCC round at Losail International Circuit to be held later this week. 
Al Attiyah, a two-time Dakar Rally champion, last evening tested his Chevrolet around Losail International Circuit, venue of the night WTCC spectacle on November 26 and 27. 
“It was a good test for me,” Al Attiyah said yesterday. 
“I am quite happy with my times and it was my first time in a touring car,” he said. 
“It was a very good experience,” he said. 
“I feel excited that I will be driving at a home event,” Al Attiyah said.
“I know the circuit very well. I think I have adapted very fast to the car and I will do the maximum to get the better result in my home race,” Al Attiyah said. 
“The car is very good and all the team is great. They are trying to support me to the maximum. Many thanks also to QMMF President Nasser Khalifa bin Al Attiyah who gave me this chance to be here, at the final round of the WTCC season,” Al Attiyah said.
Free practice will be held tomorrow from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. On Friday, official qualifying sessions will held be from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. 
The first race on Friday is scheduled to start at 9:30pm while the second race will commence at 10:40pm.   Organisers said yesterday that entrance to the grandstand is free for all the spectators. 
Officials said there will be pick-up points of free transportation from Doha to Losail International Circuit on Friday.
