Nasser ranked 2012 Middle East’s best driver

DOHA: Qatar’s Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah (pictured) finished top of the rankings for rally drivers in the Middle East for 2012, according to the World Rally Rankings.
 
The top ranking means that the Qatari was the best driver in the Middle East for 2012.
 
The Qatari, who started his 2013 season at the Dakar Rally collected 3498 points, a huge difference to Saudi Arabia’s Yazeed Al Rajhi who had 1629 points.
 
The third best driver in the Middle East for 2012 was Yagiz Avci of Turkey with a total of 1601.
 
The Middle East drivers category consisted of Qatar, Jordan, Cyprus, Kuwait, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
 
The Middle East countries that were not included in the World Rally Rankings were Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Oman, Palestine, Syria and Yemen.
 
World Rally Rankings is calculated through a points system, based on the importance, the sporting difficulty and the results obtained by drivers from around the world participating only in the rallies included in the FIA International Sporting Calendar.
 
Al Attiyah, who also won bronze medal in the men’s skeet at the London 2012 Olympic Games, is currently taking part in the 2013 Qatar International Rally.
