DOHA: Defending world champion Antonio Cairoli will be among the 25 riders who will be seen in action in the MX1 category when the opening round of the 2013 FIM World Motocross Championship at Losail Motocross Track takes place on Friday and Saturday this weekend.
According to the provisional entry lists released from Youthstream yesterday, 33 riders of the MX2 category will participate in the Qatar round.
Italy’s Cairoli of the Red Bull KTM Factory is the six times World Motocross Champion having won MX1 four times.
The Italian is also the two-time champion in MX2, who has accumulated a total of 54 Grand Prix victories during his career.
“For sure I am looking forward to Qatar a lot. I have never been, but I love to travel and see new things. I hope they made a nice track for us, and I am sure it will be a nice race,” Cairoli said in a recent interview.
In the MX2 category, the defending world championship rider, Netherland’s Jeffrey Herlings will be also present in the Qatar round.
The Dutch rider also from the Red Bull KTM Factory, has 16 Grand Prix victories to his name.
Kuwaiti riders Moaath Al Ansari and Mishary Shibah will also be competing in the MX1 World Championship.
Abdulla Al Shatti from Kuwait and Hassan Ahmed from Bahrain will also participate in the MX2 category.
The two-day event at Losail Motocross Track will be special for the riders.
It will be the first time the FIM World Motocross Championship race will take place at night.
It will also mark the first time the riders from MX1 and MX2 categories will ride be riding together in the MX1 / MX2 Superfinal on Saturday at 11.10pm.
The length of Losail MX track is 1,69 kilometres with a width of 10-12 metres.
There are 16 turns and 18 obstacles of different distances and difficulties that for sure will guarantee a great spectacle to all the fans and spectators that will attend the event.
Those who wish to see the action live can buy tickets are available at Villaggio Mall and at the ticket booths of the Losail MX track during the event.
Children under the age of 11 years will get be admitted free of charge.
