DOHA: Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman A Thani, the Secretary General of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) honoured the Qatar Paralympic team for clinching the first place at the 8th GCC Paralympic Championship 2013 held in Doha recently.
The QOC Secretary General hailed the performance of the Paralympic team in the event.
“This special needs community has proved their capability to represent Qatar sport movement at both regional and international sport events,” said Sheikh Saoud.
The QOC Secretary General said the medals bagged by the host nation at the GCC meet were the outcome of the continuous support given by the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Heir Apparent
H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the Paralympic sport in particular and Qatar sport movement in general.
Sheikh Saoud also thanked the administrative and technical staff members and players at the Qatar Paralympic Committee (QPC) for their collective effort and tangible contribution that lead to a dazzling show at the championship.
The QPC Secretary-General, Dr Hassan Al Ansari praised the significant role played by Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim, the President of QOC and to Sheikh Saoud, the Secretary General of QOC for their boost to the Paralympic movement in the country and support to the special sport movement.
Qatar Paralympic team notched up an impressive performance to win 12 medals in the event.
Qatar’s Sara Masoud clinched gold in the women’s Cerebral Palsy, while Abdulrahman Abdulrahman won the top place in Javelin Throw, Abdullah Abdulraheem continued the good show for the hosts by winning the silver medal in men’s 100m Intellectual Disability, while his team-mate Abdullah Al Manae took the bronze in the same event. The hosts won more medals through the efforts of Mohammed Al Kubaisi bronze medal in Wheelchair event, while Abdulrahman Abdulrahman seized the bronze medal in Javelin Throw – Cerebral Palsy, Abdullah Abdulraheem won the long Jump event for Blind and Abdullah Al Mane clinched the bronze in the same event. In track and field categories, Khalifa Al Dossari won the first place in the 200m, while Abdullah Abdulraheem claimed the silver medal in 200m run for the deaf, Abdulrahman Ahmed won gold and silver medals in Shot Put to complete a rich haul of medals for the hosts.
