Doha: Nineteen intersections will be built soon on Al Shamal Road including new bridges to reduce traffic congestion and ensure safe and smooth flow of traffic.
“A number of construction projects will be completed soon. Development of Al Shamal road also included in the plan," Brig Mohamed Marafiya, Director of Traffic Engineering and Safety Department, said in an interview with police magazine Al Shurta Maak (Police with You).
He said that Traffic Engineering and Safety Department is working in collaboration with Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to construct a number of bridges and intersection projects on Al Shamal road like Azghawa bridge and another bridge towards Doha to serve traffic flow.
“One of the bridges which has recently launched is serving long vehicles coming from Al Duhail to Doha and vice versa, and this bridge reduced the distance by 6km as well," he added.
After the completion of projects, the engineering department will supervise the traffic movement to evaluate its flow and in case of any engineering flaws affecting traffic safety, the department will get them rectified."
He also said that before the construction of any road, intersection, subway and bridge, the department checks designs of the projects to evaluate it from the traffic side and to suggest entrances and exits which contributes to vehicular flow.
“The launch of such projects is meant for the rising population in the country and the Ministry of Interior is keen to ensure people's safety. A number of road projects which were recently completed are successfully serving vehicles and pedestrians”, he added.
