The Ministry of Interior through Medical Services Department (dental section) has joined the National Oral and Dental Health Campaign launched by the Ministry of Public Health.

The campaign being organised electronically, was launched under the slogan “My Smile is My Health”.

The campaign aims to raise awareness on importance of oral care and positive behaviours towards oral and dental services in the community.

It will also enhance communication between dental services and prevention departments in various medical institutions, in addition to encouraging community groups of children, adolescents and adults to follow a healthy diet and reduce sugar consumption in food and drinks.

Medical Services Department at the Ministry of Interior provides integrated health services to the Ministry’s employees and their families. It also promotes the campaign goals by active awareness message for the Ministry’s

employees. Till December 31, free medical consultations will be provided by specialised dentists who will answer all questions by the public on the Ministry of Public Health’s website.

Educational publications on oral and dental health have been published on the Ministry’s social media platforms and of other health sector partners. The Ministry of Public Health has provided a number of tips on children’s dental care to avoid frequent visits to dental clinics. They have to use a pea size fluoridated toothpaste, and to eat fruits such apples and pears, and vegetables such cucumber or carrots between meals because they contain fibres which help in cleaning the teeth and strengthening the gum. “In case a child wants to eat sweets, it is advised to east small portions of non-sticky sweets, followed by fruits or vegetables or to brush your child’s teeth right after eating of sweets,” the Ministry of Public has advised people.

The Ministry also said that people must visit a dentist following emergency cases during the COVID-19 pandemic, which include severe toothache, bleeding, complete or partial fracture of tooth among others.
