DOHA: Abdi Khalid (22) and Raffa Anthony (20) produced a daredevil performance to power Al Sadd past Al Wakrah by just a solitary point at Al Gharafa Indoor Hall yesterday.
Khalid and Anthony combined well to help Al Sadd post a 80-79 victory in a game in which the winners trailed in three of the four quarters.
Al Sadd, trailing 61-67 at the end of the third quarter, found extra reserves to seal their win in the fourth and final quarter.
Anthony clearly enjoyed a memorable outing as he also managed 12 assists in the tough encounter. Khalid managed 4 assists.
Former Qatar national team player Ali Saad Abdulrahman (13) and Saeed Erfan Ali (11) also reached double figures for Al Sadd.
Daoud Daoud Mousa scored 8 points for Al Sadd.
For Al Wakrah, Watson Boney Harold produced 20 points and 7 assists. He was ably supported by Ndour Mame Souleye who scored 16 points and 1 assist.
Mujkic Emir (15 points and 3 assists) and Saaka Adamu (14 points and 5 assists) also well played well for Al Wakrah.
In the second game of the day, Al Gharafa beat Al Shamal 95-75 after Saad Abdulrahman Mohamed and Adako Emmanuel Osaro hit the 20s with ease. Mohamed scored 29 points and had 5 assists while Osaro managed 28 points and 4 assists to lift Al Gharafa playing on home turf.
Galloway Kevin Dwayne (13 points and 4 assists) and Salem Omar Abdelkader (10 points and 1 assist) also reached double figures for Al Gharafa,
For Al Shamal, Ambres Mildon produced a tally of 20 points and 5 assists while team-mate Kosar Abdulqadir managed to score 17 points. Abdulqadir had 2 assists.
Hachad Mohamed Kamal also reached double digits for Al Shamal, scoring 14 points for his team. Kamal had 5 assists. Adam Khalid Abdalla scored 9 points.
The next round will be played on January 30 with Al Rayyan playing Al Arabi and Qatar SC taking on Al Ahli at Al Gharafa Indoor Stadium.
