DOHA: Al Sadd maintained their 100 per cent record with a 3-1 win against Eljaish in the Qatar Stars League (QSL) yesterday.

Al Sadd tops the QSL stanndings with 15 points from five games.

Yesterday consisted of all 12 teams playing, and Al Sailiyah caused the shock result of the day, with a comprehensive 4-1 win against Al Rayyan.

The 2011 AFC Champions League winners, began the match in confident mood and dominated the early stages of the match.

But Al Sadd, coached by Hussein Amute were behind in the 15th minute, when Amaral Costa Marconi’s powerful header from a corner gave Eljaish the lead.

Al Sadd pressed forward with the hope of scoring the equaliser.

After Ribeiro Wagner missed a chance in the 30th minute to extend Eljaish’s lead, Al Sadd’s Ibrahim Khalfan equalized to make it 1-1 with a well-taken finish in the bottom right hand corner.

The home side were awarded a penalty shortly before half-time in which Khalfan scored to doubled his goal tally in the match.

The Al Sadd striker has now scored five goals in two matches in the QSL.

In the second half, Eljaish put Al Sadd under pressure, creating numerous chances.

The visitors nearly scored the equaliser in the 84th minute when midfielder Ziani Koceila Karim saw his shot skim wide off the post.

Two minutes later, Eljaish were made to rue their opportunities as  Al Sadd made sure of the three points.

Mamadou Niang saw his shot deflect off an Eljaish player and past the stranded goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, the defending Heir Apparent Cup winners Al Rayyan were stunned as minnows Al Sailiyah registered their first victory of the campaign.

Al Rayyan, coached by Diego Aguirre, who drew against Al Khor in round four last week, find themselves in third position in the standings.

Elsewhere, Lekhwiya won 2-1 against Al Khor.

In other action, Qatar SC drew 0-0 with Al Wakrah, and Al Arabi, managed by former Egpytian manager Hassan Shehati, were held at home by Al Kharaitiyat.

Former QSL champions Al Gharafa drew 1-1 against Umm Salal.

The next round of QSL takes place on November 1 and 2.

The two stand-out matches in round six are Al Gharafa vs Lekhwiya on Thursday and Al Rayyan hosting Al Sadd on Friday. THE PENINSULA
