Paying tributes to Cuban Revolution Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz at a solemn ceremony at the Embassy of Cuba, Eumelio Caballero Rodriguez, Cuban Ambassador to Qatar, said yesterday that with his principles and revolutionary convictions, Fidel mobilised his people and proved that they could defeat the pro-imperialist and strong dictators.
The event, marked in memoriam of Fidel Castro, on his first death anniversary was attended by a large number of diplomats from various countries as well as Cuban expatriates.
“The moment is propitious to reiterate here on behalf of his family, the Government and the people of Cuba, our gratitude to the highest authorities of the State of Qatar, heads and representatives of the diplomatic missions, to our compatriots and to all those friends who expressed their condolences to us from the very moment the news of Fidel’s death came on November 25 of last year,” the ambassador said.
“Our people and friends throughout the world paid homage to a man, who with his profound rejection of social injustice and the oppression of the weak by the powerful and his extraordinary human sensitivity and faith in the ability of men to renew themselves and be better, taught us every day that we could do it,” he added.
He said that with his principles and revolutionary convictions, Fidel mobilized the Cubans and proved that they could defeat the pro-imperialist and heavily armed dictatorship.
He said Fidel proved that the Cuban people could overcome the deepest economic and social crisis inherited from the new colonial regimes.
“Fidel proved we could build a new Cuba dignified by its sense of pertinence, patriotism, human solidarity among us and with other peoples, very strong spirit of sacrifice and resistance, and disposition to defend Cuba’s independence and sovereignty at all cost,” he remarked.
“Based on his profound attachment to the principles of justice and equality in the international relations, Fidel proved that a small but revolutionary country like Cuba, could proclaim its socialist character at only 90 miles from the United States, while offering its historic militant support to the struggling peoples of Africa and other continents for their national liberation and against all forms of imperialist aggression, pressures or interference in internal affairs of states,” he maintained.
He said Fidel strongly advocated for a better world characterized by justice and sovereign equality and solidarity among nations, and the rule of international laws, which are the bases for Cuba’s firm stand against unilateral, illegal blockades, economic coercive measures and for the peaceful solution of conflicts and differences in the international relations through constructive and respectful dialogue.
Therefore, the ambassador said, as part of the posthumous tribute to the leader who was and will always be our Commander-in-Chief, millions of Cubans signed and committed themselves to the concept of revolution outlined by Fidel, which states as follows: “Revolution means to have a sense of history, to change everything that must be changed; revolution means full equality and freedom; it is being treated and treating others like human beings; it is defending the values in which we believe at the cost of any sacrifice; it is modesty, selflessness, altruism, solidarity and heroism; it is fighting with courage, intelligence and realism; it is never lying or violating ethical principles; it is a profound conviction that there is no power in the world that can crush the power of truth and ideas.”
